“Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2
You become what you behold. So, what or who are you looking at? From the moment we awake to the time we get to bed, we are looking at something. What we look at or give our attention to when we wake up to the time we fall asleep, will enhance or ruin our lives. The reading for today encourages us to set our hearts and minds on things above. See also Philippians 4:8
One of the many things I admire about Jesus was His steadfast focus on His Father. Throughout His earthly life, He never took His eyes off the Father. He never allowed any one or any thing to distract from what He was sent to earth to accomplish. This ability to Behold, allowed Him to be the only human (son of man and of God) to finish life perfectly. No failures, no regrets.
The primary reason for most of us failing in life is distractions. We stumble through life as though we have no compass. This mostly occurs whenever we fail to look in the right direction. The direction of the Cross and the One who hung there to give us our best life! A life worth living. Distracted vision will always blur the lines to what is real or imagined. The bait of Satan is always to distract through people, circumstances or events. Have you ever tried wearing old prescription glasses after you’ve had a new pair? What has been the result? Blurred vision. The same thing will happen to Believers in Christ who try to live our new life looking through the old lenses of our past.
My friends, with everything vying for our attention right now during this season of chaos and confusion, we need to adhere to the Words of the apostle Paul and set our hearts and minds on the One who is able to see us through it all. Not CNN, MSNBC or FOX NEWS. No, my friends, we need to keep our minds on Jesus! Try turning all that distracts to the One who attracts you to a life where the storm, wind and rain don’t disturb our rest in Him. You will become what you behold! So what are you looking at in this season?
To live the triumphant life that God intends for us to live we must choose to deliberately keep our minds and eyes on Him. Choose His Word over world events. You’ll find that what we think is new information is old news to God. It is written! Use this time of social distancing to get closer to Jesus. Turn your pressures into Praise! Discover in Him and His Word what you have missed during your time of busyness. Yes my friends! Get back to basics, discover through exploration the Sweetness of His presence through His Word. YOU BECOME WHAT YOU BEHOLD!
Father in the Name of Jesus, I admit that I have allowed myself to be distracted by what is going on around me. Help me to refocus my mind, life and eyes toward you and your Word. Let me see Jesus and become the light you’ve called me to be in this world. In Jesus Name I pray.
Have a victorious day!
