Are you keeping a record of your past mistakes? Having a hard time forgiving and forgetting? Are you one of the redeemed children of God? Then the score board has been wiped clean. If you’re still being haunted by your past I have good news for you. In the following psalm the writer takes comfort in the fact that the Lord has no record or score to keep. When He cried “FINISHED!” God the Father at the moment of your salvation declared. “ERASED!” We are free once and for all from all entanglements and yokes of our past. Do you believe that? Let’s read together:
“Help, GOD —the bottom has fallen out of my life! Master, hear my cry for help! Listen hard! Open your ears! Listen to my cries for mercy.
If you, GOD, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that’s why You’re worshiped.
I pray to GOD —my life a prayer— and wait for what He’ll say and do. My life’s on the line before God, my Lord, waiting and watching till morning, waiting and watching till morning.
O Israel, wait and watch for GOD — with GOD ’s arrival comes love, with GOD ’s arrival comes generous redemption. No doubt about it—He’ll redeem Israel, buy back Israel from captivity to sin.”
Psalm 130:1-8 MSG
Yes my brothers and sisters, sometimes we do feel like the bottom has fallen out of our lives, but take heart- help is on the way. The God who sees you and has wiped the slate clean, is asking you to choose to forget. The enemy wants us looking back, because he realizes that looking back creates setbacks. Resist him steadfast in the faith! Declare you are the righteousness of Christ! Redeemed, ransomed and restored through the precious blood of Jesus. He wants us living in the fear of man. He wants to silence our witness. But the score card is clear, the pathway is open to a brand new way of thinking by washing your old mind with the water of the Word. Claim your forgiveness and wear it like a garment. Don’t rehearse what your Heavenly Father has forgiven and forgotten. I read something I’d like to share with you. It’s called the prosperous mind:
So what does it look like to be prosperous in our mind? It’s been said countless times that the battleground is in our minds. This is so true. Just recognizing that gives us an advantage, as we then become conscious of the fact that the enemy of our souls loves to contradict God’s Word to cause us to stray from God’s will. Not only is a prosperous mind more immune to lies, it thinks creatively. Part of the devil’s primary focus is to get us anxious over the issues of life. If I get anxious, he has successfully shut down my ability to represent our Father, the Creator of all, through inspired thought. Bill Johnson.
Did you get that? Whenever we allow the enemy to take us backwards, our minds become unfruitful. I heard Joyce Meyer say, if you have a hidden sin that you’re being harassed by the devil about, even though you have confessed it to the Lord, then find a trusted friend and share it. Once someone else knows it, it’s no longer a secret the devil can use. Let’s beat him at his own game. If the Lord isn’t keeping a record of our sins, we shouldn’t either. We want to live with a prosperous mind. Living the realities of our redemption. The world or the devil can’t take what you refuse to give. Don’t give up your mind.
The Psalm goes on to say we can serve the Lord with reverence when we know that we’re forgiven. Then he continues, “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His Word I put my hope.” NIV
The mind that is prosperous is a mind that hopes in and believes God’s Word above every intrusion. We serve a God who doesn’t keep a record of sins. That’s good news for the sinner and saint alike. But we have to embrace the revelation of that truth. I wrote a message earlier that I shared reminding us that God has posted a “no excavation” sign in the graveyard where our sins are buried. Don’t assist the devil in his digging. Breakout and live in the freedom of the prosperous mind. Speak with confidence the truth of God’s Word about you. There’s a counter Word to every lie of the enemy. Search the Word for God’s Truth concerning your forgiveness and use it as a weapon against the fiery darts. Go reread Ephesians 6. Brush the dust off of your armor. Stand sure footed in your freedom in Christ. Stop keeping score. Unwillingness to forget and accept God’s forgiveness has its roots in pride. It’s saying that what He’s done in Jesus is not enough.
Heavenly Father in the Name of Jesus I commit today to not look back and resurrect what you have declared dead. I commit to learning everything that points to your total erasure of past sins and walk in the realities of Your truths. I desire for my life to flow from a mind that is prosperous, filled with confidence. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! I am chosen! I am sanctified through the blood of Jesus! I am a child of God! In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
“My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.”
